Our inspirational (controversially) senior today is Mick Jagger – lead singer of the Rolling Stones. Our parents certainly didn’t think of him as an inspiration in the 60’s – but times change
.One of the most famous rock & roll stars of all time, Mick Jagger once said “I’d rather be dead than singing ‘Satisfaction’ when I’m forty-five.”
Now, at age 73, Mick and the Rolling Stones are still rocking the world, one arena at a time.
A generation ago, a man his age was considered an old man. Today he is part of a group that gerontologists call “the young old”. How does he do it? For one thing – he clocks about 12 miles, strutting on stage, at every concert. In between he runs, swims or exercises daily. Another part of the equation is that he found what he was passionate about (music) and he stays passionate about it today.
Could it be that Mick discovered what many older adults today already know – that life as a senior can be … well … satisfying?
